Going on the Ferris wheel, skydiving, skateboarding, swimming with the sharks, bungee jumping – all of these experiences are kinda scary but give you a massive adrenaline rush while trying them. Similar to that, horror games are the equivalent of adventure sports in the gaming world. There are too many reasons to not play a horror game but you only need one good reason to experience the madness. After applying the same logic, we have curated a list of 5 reasons why you should play Nightmare of Decay.
Reasons To Play Nightmare of Decay
1. The Never-Give-Up Attitude of Zombies
These zombies do not give up easily – it seems like they have been listening to a lot of motivational videos lately while consuming their staple diet of humans. Killing these zombies is going to be a true test of your patience – it will frustrate you & excite you at the same time. It is advised to play alone as you will have moments of shouting & cursing at these zombies trained by David Goggins – to not give up till the very last moment.
The bullets-to-zombie ratio is going to spike up your anxiety constantly throughout the gameplay. The growling sound of these zombies is hilarious Max Pro – the “Hooooo Haaaaa” sound effects are so silly that you will find yourself doing impression of the goofy Zombie growling sounds. The zombie head explosions are extremely satisfying & might make you go “Ewww” with a grin on your face.
2. An Old School Rustic Color Scheme
The metallic rust style of textures will hit you like a truck filled with nostalgia, kind of how the manure truck hits Biff Tannen in the Back to The Future movies. The gloomy world of Nightmare of Decay will give you major fever dream vibes, thanks to the old-school graphics. The bite crunching of zombies, the red-eyed dogs, the red-turning screen after getting hit, the splash of blood-red color, the gory explosion of blood with body parts and the crusty walls – you’re going to get lost in this visually ambient experience. The game clearly shows that you don’t need ground-breaking visuals to create a compelling gameplay.
The old-school textual narration, the minimalist textures, a Call of Duty-inspired ammo collection visual effects, a 2000s style of weapon combat mechanics and character movements – all of these visual effects add an oddly gritty realism that can’t be explained but only felt.
3. A Deal With The Devil
It’s a spoiler but in a non-spoiler way – you’re going to sign a deal with a devil-like creature & let’s just say that you’re going to have to collect some weird things & gift it to the devilish monster in the game. After the creature’s happy, you’re going to get your life spared for the longest duration of time. You’re going to follow the instructions, complete your homework and impress the master or you’re going to get hit with the stick in front of your class – it’s going to feel like that but in a darker & evil world filled with hideous abominations that are trying to eat you alive.
You’re also going to get a life lesson about trust in this game – the climax is the icing on the incredibly delicious & atmospherically scary cake i.e. Nightmare of Decay.
4. An Amazing Integration of Movie References
You’re going to feel like Ronald Weasley, when he is being chased by Aragog and his hungry children as shown in the Chamber of Secrets, when you witness the monstrosity of the spider in Nightmare of Decay. A madman running after you with a turned-on chainsaw will give you major Evil Dead nostalgia. The dogs with bloodshot eyes will remind you of the Resident Evil movie series. The Armor suit, the skeletons and the castle walls will remind you of Skyrim. Last but not least, the crowbar combat sequences will remind you of the action from the iconic Half-Life game series.
If you’re a movie nerd or a gaming nerd then it’s going to feel like a slice of paradise being served to you on a computer screen when you are playing the Nightmare of Decay.
5. A Weirdly Entertaining Mashup of Random Themes
There’s a lot of gore & mutilated bodies in the game which looks cinematic in a Quentin Tarantino’esque fashion. At moments you’re also going to feel like you’re inside the room shown in the Saw movie – it feels haunting and disgustingly real. You are also going to feel like you’ve entered the kitchen of one of those cannibals shown in the Wrong Turn movies. There’s a cat that mocks you, a weirdly calming shooting game during a zombie horror situation, an ancient spell that brings armors to life, a nun fighting you and a monster that looks straight out from the Far Cry 1 game – there’s a lot to process for your brain.
If you’re craving an action-based horror game with lots of gore, then Nightmare of Decay is a great option for you to give a try.
