Personality Breakdown of Lucas Baker from Resident Evil 7

Lucas Baker is the son of the Baker family head, i.e., Jack Baker. His father despises the very sight of him and carries a hostile attitude towards him. Lucas Baker is not the apple of anyone’s eye in his family as his personality turned out quite weird and antisocial. Lucas often gets physically assaulted by his father, for behaving like a hooligan. His demeanor is immature and unsuitable for being a part of society. Lucas Baker’s eccentric and psychopathic nature makes him one of the most intriguing characters in Resident Evil 7. We have broken down Lucas Baker’s frail personality into 7 points.

Personality Breakdown of Lucas Baker summed into 7 major points

1. He is a vicious psychopath

Lucas Baker is just like one of the psychopaths shown in a Netflix documentary whose face & eyes have no discernible emotion written on them. You cannot perceive what Lucas might be thinking at the present moment. His presence has a skin-crawling, eerie, and silent vibe, that is quite similar to how a serial killer quietly waits in his car for his next victim. Like other psychopaths, Lucas Baker is extremely determined and meticulous in his modus operandi. He has a very pseudo charisma, that sticks out like a sore thumb to his personality. The sweet-talking bit that handsome psychopaths like Ted Bundy do just doesn’t suit Lucas’s lanky and unattractive physique.

Lucas Baker exhibits typical psychopath behavior, as he is incredibly perceptive and intuitively intelligent.

2. He is insanely creepy & socially awkward

Lucas Baker has the face of a drug addict who has just been admitted to rehab. His face doesn’t have any glow and his eyes have no life or sparkle in them. Lucas looks like a zombie from the Walking Dead TV series due to his pale & grayish skin quality. His skinny body gives out the impressions of his facial bones, which makes him look like a homeless guy surviving on water & generosity of strangers. Lucas doesn’t know how to properly welcome guests at his home. He acts fidgety when guests are around & often resorts to impolite, and socially rude behavior.

Lucas doesn’t know what to do with his body and hence comes across as socially awkward. He is the kind of acquaintance you wouldn’t invite to eat out with your friend group, as he doesn’t know when to break eye contact or how to break awkward silence. Lucas Baker is like a keyboard flirting machine guy who would creep out the girl within a few seconds of meeting her in real life.

3. He never stands up for himself

Lucas Baker is treated violently by his father over the smallest mistakes. He doesn’t raise his voice or demand decent treatment like a self-respecting individual does. He becomes an introverted child in front of his parents and a confident evil entity in front of his victims. Lucas Baker gets brutally attacked by his father repeatedly but hasn’t left the Baker mansion – the acceptance of his father’s inhumane behavior is weirdly similar to the classic case of Stockholm syndrome. Jack Baker’s controlling & aggressively masculine parenting made Lucas, into the obnoxious, underconfident individual that he is.

4. He becomes charismatic when he teases his victims

When he is not getting his hand amputated by his father, Lucas becomes a confident person and a charismatic villain. By being sarcastic, Lucas teases his victims. Evil Lucas has a devilish flamboyance, free-flowing body language, and a self-assured, confident tone of speaking. Lucas Baker’s personality changes 180°, i.e., from a naive & nervous Simba (son of Mufasa) to a dark, evil and ferociously flamboyant Scar (main villain & killer of Mufasa), when evil takes over him. It’s almost as if Lucas becomes socially functional when he takes on the real-life role of a murderous villain.

5. He is a sadistic villain like Hannibal Lecter

Lucas Baker is always 2 steps ahead of his victim, i.e., Ethan Winters. He sets innovative traps and challenges his victim’s intellect to guide them towards the prize like a weird treasure hunt. Lucas doesn’t have the suave body language, photographic memory or psychological genius of Hannibal Lecter but he sure derives similar sadistic pleasure on seeing his victims scream in agony or beg him. Lucas speaks sarcastically with joy on seeing his victims struggle – it’s almost as if he is mocking their intelligence.

6. He still has some humanity left

Lucas Baker’s eyes have an endearing & polite quality to them. It seems as if a polite, introverted person’s body is possessed by an evil entity when Lucas speaks. Even though, Lucas puts you in life-threatening situations but when he speaks softly, he doesn’t seem like a psychopath. He (Lucas) doesn’t want things to go back as they were, i.e., when the Baker family wasn’t possessed by Eveline’s ghost, and when Lucas had to endure his father’s physical abuse without the regenerative quality that he has now. Lucas is a traumatized child who just turned evil after Eveline’s attack but the remnants of his traumatized past have still kept the kindness in his voice still intact.

There are glimmers of earnestness in Lucas’s voice which shows that he still has some humanity left inside his evil brain.

7. He is playful like a James Bond villain

There’s an undeniable authority and playfulness in Lucas’s voice when he speaks to his victims. Just like a Bond villain, Lucas beautifully maintains the balance between perpetual evil & gentlemanly behavior while conducting his evil & torturous business with the victims. Lucas doesn’t use curse or profane words while arguing with his victims but still manages to intimidate them. The arrogance of a Bond villain is evident in Lucas’s behavior, which makes him 10 times more likable and alluring than he usually is.
