Homeless is an investigative thriller horror game set in 1998, where you play as Albert Smith, a subway security officer who has been given the job of monitoring the subways & making sure that no homeless person spends the night there. Albert decides to go down the subway, confront and possibly expel a creepy man that he saw in the live CCTV footage. The demonic, nightmarish & life-threatening experiences of Albert in the subways make the premise of Homeless. You are going to get creeped out vicariously through Albert. Here’s our review of the game ‘Homeless’.
Homeless Game Review
1. Haunting atmosphere that will keep you on the edge
A painfully eerie silence, a feeling of dread dispersed in the air, an atmospheric horror that will take your breath away every few minutes with its subtle elements of surprise & gloomy visuals, which make DC movies look like a fairy tale. You’re going to get startled with each footstep that you take, unexpected sound effects that you hear & dim-lit area that you enter in the nightmarishly claustrophobic subways of ‘Homeless’. Your heart is going to beat faster than ‘Flash’, each time you get close to a moist, dingy, and godforsaken area that needs your immediate attention – it almost feels as if you’re breathing despair & depression when you’re exploring the subways.
Even a flickering light in the game seems to be possessed by some evil entity – Homeless brilliantly uses its ambiance to scare you out of your wits.
2. A Game of Hide and Seek with Evil
The creepy, sinister, and wicked-looking man lurking in the subways will scare the bejesus out of you only with his cold presence – you’re going to feel as if you’re a deer hiding in the bushes from a tiger prowling in the jungle, who is looking for a way to satisfy its midnight cravings. The psychological horror in “Homeless” is way more intense than the traditional jumpscares used in horror games. The scares in the game feel organically haunting.
You’re going to feel as if you’re going to stumble and get bit by a rabid dog with glowing eyes – the game somehow makes you feel like you’re in the world of the Saw movies, where everything looks morbid & clownishly evil. You’re going to feel both, i.e., spine-chilling nervousness and bravado while fighting this evil entity.
3. A gut-sickening display of gore
It’s nothing compared to the puke-inducing visuals of the Wrong Turn movie series where body parts are shown, but it definitely has a more stylish “Quentin Tarantino” style of gore infused into the gameplay – ‘Homeless’ looks amazingly cinematic in its display of gore, like the crime documentaries based on psychopath murderers. The splashes of blood dispersed on the crime scene somehow go hand in hand with the bone-chilling & horror-inspiring atmosphere of the game – it adds an animalistic visual charm to the already gruesome world of ‘Homeless’. You’re going to feel a very strong “Hunt or get hunted” vibe, thanks to the gory visuals of the game.
4. Breathtakingly gorgeous visuals that keep you hooked
The thought, “I am going to die, I’m going to die, OMG, how beautiful that wall looks or how gorgeous the lighting looks” is going to pop into your brain during the gameplay. The glossy water reflections, smooth textures, smoke effects, particles dispersed in air, beautiful graffiti – everything looks drop-dead gorgeous, even the dark & dim-lit alleys of the subway look like something straight out of a high-budget post-apocalyptic horror movie. The graphics of ‘Homeless’ are gorgeous enough to put major AAA games to shame. ‘Homeless’ is a sumptuous visual feast for horror game lovers.
5. You will have the answers but are you willing to check
There’s a monitor that will tell you exactly where to look, but the question is, “Do you have the guts to look?”. The gaming experience is quite similar to looking at a giant Ferris wheel & thinking to yourself, “Should I buy a ticket?”. Exploring the dark, dingy, and nightmarish subways of “Homeless” will make your heartbeat ring in your ears, and you’re going to feel like a stupid rat who is walking intentionally into the cheese-placed mouse trap. Your heart is going to race faster than an Aston Martin with a V8 engine while investigating this nightmarish New York subway.
