Silent Still is a psychological horror game that educates us on the topic of sleep paralysis through the lens of horror. The premise of the game is quite simple, i.e., you are living a simple life of routine and one day you experience a weird physical state where you are unable to move your lower body, and an element of extremely horrifying visuals is added on top of that. The game blends human instincts & supernatural horror beautifully. Here’s our review of Silent Still.
Silent Still Review
1. The homely vibe is extremely enticing
The rugged textures of the carpet, glistening visual effects of the light reflections, hallucinatory & hazed visual effects, and realistic lighting effects make the aesthetic of a home truly come alive in Silent Still. The homely vibe in the game feels extremely close to real life. It makes you feel peaceful & relaxed as if you are at your virtual home. The peaceful melancholy that one feels in the tranquility of their own place creeps in slowly as you start playing the game. You are going to feel as if someone is showing you the true picture of your life.
‘Silent Still’ shows you the perfect mirror image of a desolate, peaceful, and quiet home, and that’s the reason why the gameplay feels deeply personal. The game breaks the fourth wall with utmost ease & grips you instantly. The vibe of “staring at a wall for hours” and having nothing to do is apparent – you’re going to feel the exact same energy throughout the gameplay. The game is quite calming with its homely aesthetics.
2. A beautiful portrayal of an adult’s life
Coming back home from a long day at work, feeling a peaceful sense of belonging, and then finally getting that well-deserved shut-eye – Silent Still gives you that same serene feeling of “Ahh, I am back in my den. No boss, no stupid employees, no overhyped work deadlines, I am going to watch some Netflix or enjoy some late-night TV.” You are going to feel a hollowness in your heart, that one feels while working aimlessly at their office jobs. The depiction of a lack of work-life balance and career anxiety in “Silent Still” will ring true in most adult gamers’ hearts.
The game artistically touches on the topic of loneliness & how some inexplicable battles have to be fought alone to avoid shame or public humiliation. If you’re lonely or struggling with anxiety, then you’re going to feel heard or correctly portrayed through this game. You are going to get the guilty pleasure of experiencing virtual sorrow through the gameplay.
3. Bone chilling horror that makes you heart race
“After just having watched a horror movie, you are all cozied & snuggled up into your blanket with your toes out, and suddenly you decide to snuggle your toes back in because a monster might be lying beneath the bed, who might be waiting to pull you by your legs, and everything about your life ends with a blood-curdling screech”. You are going to feel this exact vibe while playing this terrifyingly convincing game aka ‘Silent Still’. While playing, you are going to feel as if some eyes are looking at you with a hauntingly piercing look or as if a demonic entity is waiting to jump and rip you into shreds.
Overall, the game is debilitatingly horrifying and boasts a heart-pounding sound design good enough to scare even the most hardcore horror fans. In simple words, the game (Silent Still) realizes the worst nightmares that you get after watching a horrifying piece of content. It’s a short and nice horror game that genuinely haunts you.
