Amenti Game Review

A scary expedition begins..

Fueled by the ambition to take groundbreaking photographs of a famous, ancient Egyptian tomb, you step into the dark world, or what could be described as the final resting place of Pharaoh Rudamon, with unwavering enthusiasm and hope of making it to the Mount Rushmore of photographers. However, as soon as you realize that the 2 straight-facing pariah dog statues guarding a room have their faces turned towards you after a few minutes, your hopes and ambitions will turn to dust, and the clouds of fear will start emerging in your brain.

You will find notice boards prohibiting you from entering mysterious crevices with written warnings that say “Your death will be solely your responsibility” which will make you instantly believe that “Either I am going to make history or I am going to become history” in this dreadful place. You will find a letter from an explorer who came many decades before you, who claimed to have felt a haunting presence nearby.

Breathtaking visuals that open up your imagination

Beautiful Egyptian wall paintings, ancient stone-block architecture, walls with statues and inscriptions engraved in them, beautifully colored Egyptian coffins that look like something that belongs in the history museums, golden structures that have a gorgeous antique black appearance, and transcendental visuals of an imaginary world hidden somewhere inside the tomb are going to make your jaw drop to the floor with newfound feelings of immense awe and curiosity. Tall Egyptian statues guarding a door that looks like a portal to heaven, moonlit and cloudy skies, and a gold-laden passage covered with otherworldly waters that glisten is a combined aesthetic that you won’t be able to forget easily. The climactic visuals of the game look entrancing and give spatial, intergalactic vibes.

Claustrophobic is an understatement

You will come across a warning that alerts you of the head-spinning, nerve-wracking, heart-pounding claustrophobia that you might experience while entering the deep crevices of the tomb. If you have felt that your closed room is claustrophobic, then you are going to experience a virtual hell of suffocation as you enter the dimly lit, narrow, and secret navigational passages of the tomb. The tomb architecture, containing gargantuan blocks of stone, girthy beams that are present in overwhelming amounts, and a chilling wind-like haunting background music, will make you feel like you’re inside a coffin or have been buried alive. The claustrophobia in ‘Amenti’ is unreal, and it easily breaks the 4th wall to give you an incredibly immersive experience.

A jumpscare that is going to dissociate your soul from the body

Just remember the first time you saw the creepy ghost sitting atop the cupboard in the movie ‘The Conjuring’ and how chilling, dreadful, and soul-dissociating that scene felt – you are going to feel the exact same and then some more fear when the jumpscares arrive in ‘Amenti.’. The game simmers with intensity and slowly marinates in its haunting and atmospheric ambiance, a howling voice emerges from the otherwise dead background music, and then a creepily smiling, shiny-eyed, and menacing ghost appears out of nowhere and gazes into your soul with so much intensity that it just might make you scream like a 5-year-old who has seen Pennywise, the clown, for the first time.

Overall, Amenti is an exceptional horror game that makes you glad you aren’t brave enough to enter Egyptian tombs in real life.
