Greed Stays Home is a 2025 horror game that makes you explore the desolate, gritty town nearby for pieces of history and fortune entrapped in time. You play the role of an explorer, a modern-day Indiana Jones, if you will, who scavenges house to house for historical artifacts and treasure but instead encounters something way more exhilarating than an ancient artifact. Basically, you leave with a story worth telling to your friends. We played ‘Greed Stays Home’ and found it to be generously terrifying through the tense atmosphere and creepy sound design that it proudly boasts. Here’s our review of Greed Stays Home.
Infused with grime and grit
Just like the depiction of war movies with muddy lumps, debris, rats, and grime on the streets, Greed Stays Home beautifully paints the picture of a haunting and desolate town, which is eerily similar to the abandoned, drenched-with-rain, and sinisterly silent streets of a war-torn town. If you take a close look, it almost looks like you entered into a village area that is haunted by all the soldiers who lost their lives in the World War. You are going to feel a sense of peaceful abandon and a feeling of intense dread in your stomach at the same time while walking on these streets.
The foggy visuals of the game give it a very cold ‘Silent Hill’-type’ vibe, which further accentuates the horror aspect of it. The pale-yellow atmosphere and blunderous architecture are a gritty treat for fans of horror games like Resident Evil, where the atmosphere is enough to provide chills.
Very subtle but terrifying use of elements
Poorly locked doors with pieces of wood, half-opened gates that look like portals to bleak darkness, skeletal creatures lying still, houses engulfed in cobwebs and dust, the broken-apart infrastructure of the houses, creepy artifacts, and the nosy neighbors in ‘Greed Stays Home’ will make your expedition feel like a simulated nightmarish walk in the outskirts of hell. The neighbors will give you the ‘lonely, creepy guy you meet at the beginning of a slasher movie, who speaks cryptically and tries to warn you’ vibes. You’re going to get minor jumpscares here and there, but the real horror lies in the exploration part, i.e., when you open mysterious doors, enter dimly lit areas, or find a strange document.
The sound design is spectacular
If the sound design of ‘Greed Stays Home’ could speak in a meeting of renowned horror games discussing ‘how to make things scary through sound,’ then it would say ‘Hold my beer’ – yes, it’s that chilling and atmospheric. The sound of ravens cawing, screams that are capable of curdling someone’s blood, the haunting sound of eerie silence, and the slimy and squishy sound of walking over drenched muddy roads mixed in with suspenseful music in the game will give you immense paranoia. The combined mixture of terrifying sounds is a delicious treat for horror fanatics. Even a slight thud will spike up your heartbeat and make you pray instantly.
Without exaggerating, I would say that the sound design of ‘Greed Stays Home’ is mind-blowing and glues the terror together.
A climax that will leave you gasping for breath
As the plot matures, you will begin to realize that exploring houses for historic treasures didn’t turn out well for the curious ones who entered these houses before you. The game leaves you with a strong message of “Do not steal and work hard,” but in a very strong, life-threatening, and heart-pounding style. You are going to witness the dead arising from their dormant states and subtly telling you to leave their inhabited houses and their town. The climax is deeply unsettling and has a glaringly satanic and very subtle but extremely intimidating undertone to it.
Overall, you are going to feel as if you just encountered a group of merciless bullies and decided to flee the scene before your self-esteem takes a hit, while playing ‘Greed Stays Home’. It’s terrifying and an exciting first horror game for those who haven’t dabbled in the horror genre yet.
