Games like Dragons Dogma 2 but way better

Dragons Dogma 2 was the much-anticipated sequel to Dragons Dogma that came out in 2024. A section of the franchise fans absolutely love the game but another section of fans feel that Dragons Dogma 2 didn’t hit the bulls-eye like its predecessor did. Some fell in love with Dragons Dogma 2’s breathtaking visuals while some couldn’t care less and felt something was missing – to each his own. Taking care of both sides of the spectrum, we have curated a list of games like Dragons Dogma 2 that are better than it in some or the other way.

11 Games that are like Dragons Dogma 2 but way better

1. Atlas Fallen

Unlike Dragons Dogma 2’s plain and lackluster plot, Atlas Fallen’s storyline is gripping & unfolds slowly – you will feel curious about what’s next to come as you’re being explained your newfound powers by an invisible force known as Nyaal, which also becomes your best buddy & mentor in this crazy adventure. There are no boring exploratory walks in Atlas Fallen, as you get to control sand and glide on it as smoothly as butter does on a hot frying pan.

Leaving a gritty cloud of dust while exploring the gorgeous desert landscape, monsters & evil creatures that are an extraordinary work of art, breathtakingly glistening visuals in combat sequences, likable characters with large personalities that don’t preach or bore you, the ability to glide and combat at the same time, ultra-realistic particle textures and a gameplay that keeps you in anticipation in every single frame – Atlas Fallen is the game personification of what dreams look like. Atlas Fallen beats Dragons Dogma 2 in every single aspect – from visuals to storytelling.

2. Remnant: From The Ashes

Remnant: From The Ashes lets you fight against supernatural creatures in a post-apocalyptic world setting, which is a weird aesthetic combo but it’s so original & inventive that you’ll end up loving it. The splash of red gooey substance from exploding creatures & them evaporating into black dust – gives you the peak combat satisfaction possible if you are a hardcore science fiction movie nerd.

Exploring abandoned buildings, weird creatures making raspy zombie-like voices and crawling everywhere, hearing the sound effects of your footsteps while walking in water puddles, the disgustingly cinematic red color scheme and a gorgeously lit world with stunning reflections – Remnant: From The Ashes gives you a deeply immersive, eerie and ambient experience that will equally impress your eyes & ears. Unlike Dragons Dogma 2, the epic background music & combat sequences in Remnant: From The Ashes will leave you overwhelmed with feelings of thrill and excitement.

3. Dark Days: Devil Hunt

Unlike your regular role-playing games with mighty swords & weapons, Dark Days Devil Hunt lets you be the weapon yourself. You literally defeat the very last monster with your bare hands that are powered by supernatural strength of course. Despite playing the Saviour & Destroyer in the game, you get to feel vulnerable as you experience moments of betrayal, humiliation, family drama, and several ride-or-die events throughout the course of this game.

You get to unleash your latent masculine rage through this game that you couldn’t possibly express to your school or office bully without getting suspended or fired. The satisfying transformation from human to the devil, the animalistic grunts of rage during combat, the metal music playing in the background that just sets your mood going, vintage book-style storytelling, lots of blood splashing in X-men’s Wolverine fashion, and characters that look like demonic versions of Twilight movie characters – Dark Days Devil Hunt lets you walk in Hell and still feel like you own this place.

4. Monochrome Mobius Rights and Wings Forgotten

The serene countryside landscape of Japan, the iconic Japanese anime voiceovers that are jampacked with emotions, stunning outfits that capture the rich cultural heritage of Japan, and peculiarly contrasting but somehow compelling visuals – Monochrome Mobius Rights and Wings Forgotten has to be one of the most eccentrically delightful visual stories that you’ll come across.

The trademark emotional storytelling of Japan and listening to two pages of dialogues during a fight sequence – you are going to feel oddly calm while playing this action game. This game is like a character-building & heartwarming road trip with lots of breathtaking visuals & unexpected troubles that keep coming now and then. Overall, Monochrome Mobius Rights and Wings Forgotten is an endearing action role-playing game with spectacular storytelling. Unlike Dragons Dogma 2, this game gets all the basics right.

5. Baldurs Gate 3

Your main objective in Baldurs Gate 3 is to destroy the evil cerebral hive before it takes over the world and snatches freedom & peace from people by making them slaves of evil gods. The Superman-style spaceship empowered by an inexplicable evil force, fire-breathing giant dragons that put Khaleesi’s babies to shame, and alienistic creatures like the Tom Cruise movie “War of the Worlds” but scarier – the introductory animated cutscene is more like an intense episode of Game of Thrones with drama, supernatural stuff and dragons. In simple words, the game starts with a bang.

The game has impeccable dialogues that are nothing short of a screenplay writing course if you pay enough attention to it. You are going to become an esteemed gentleman or woman from a hooligan as there’s heavy use of vocabulary in this game by godly characters who speak with their necks held high. There might be only 2 or 3 words in this game that were written in the Oxford Dictionary and weren’t used in this game – you get the point, the game has beautifully written dialogues.

Absurd creatures with a lot of personality, Greek gods, evil lords, seductively stunning goddesses, intricately textured costumes that are beyond stunning, terrifying villains, and an epic ending that is much better than Game of Thrones’s climax – Baldurs Gate 3 is like a heart-pounding roller coaster ride personification of a game.

6. Final Fantasy 7 Remake

The spiky hair of our anime-styled protagonist, the ridiculously oversized sword that looks like a weirdly shaped USB flash drive, the talking animals that become your tour guide, Japanese characters that talk like Americans but dress up in anime cosplays, and alien abominations & ghosts in metallic landscapes – Final Fantasy 7 remake takes visual absurdity to the next level. The game characters are flamboyant, zany & over-the-top like the characters from Resident Evil movies.

The sword-slashing action scenes with sparks emerging everywhere, the vibrant color scheme that bedazzles you with the overload of neon, the magnificently lit streets and tunnels of a melancholic & gloomy world, a beautiful balance of gritty & glossy textures, a fantastical world with robotic villains and holograms threatening you and heroic slow motion shots while attacking the enemies – everything combined makes Final Fantasy 7 remake a visual anomaly, thanks to the contrasting color schemes of neon & dark it throws at you every few seconds. If you’re an anime fan, then you must play this RPG.

7. Chernobylite

Winds rustling and leaves flying all over in a dark jungle, the muffled breathing sounds, exploring the rotting ruins of a post-apocalyptic nuclear power plant in Chernobyl, the rusty atmosphere of abandoned buildings with debris everywhere, and the nuclear plant costume – Chernobylite absolutely nails the creepy atmospheric ambiance & the desolate charm of the ruins that one expects from a game about Chernobyl. Getting to the visuals – the green flame aesthetics used in the game is scarily hypnotic & gives the gamer a momentary brain fog with eye-opening visuals.

Listening to the memories of your deceased wife or roaming around in a floating world with voices creeping up on you – it’s a peculiar, depressing, and threatening way of storytelling that works like a charm somehow in Chernobylite. You get to sneak through jungles like you’re a World War soldier, craft weapons, take out mercenaries, communicate with military-grade tech, and explore ruins of abandoned buildings. Overall, Chernobylite is a riveting sci-fi survival game that feels oddly therapeutic with emotionally unsettling graphics that will stimulate your imagination.

8. Godfall

If God of War from 2018 and Baldurs Gate 3 ever have an illegitimate lovechild out of marriage, then Godfall is what it’s going to look like – the elaborate costumes like Baldurs Gate 3 and the gorgeously vibrant environmental color scheme like God of War creates a beautiful harmony, which could be clearly felt in Godfall. However, the inclusion of original elements like glossy visuals, insane reflections beautifully dispersed everywhere like perfectly spread butter on a toasted piece of bread, and an RPG fashion neon color scheme – makes Godfall a one-of-its-kind masterpiece as far as the visuals are considered.

If we compare it to Dragons Dogma 2, then the fight scenes are way more engaging, the monsters are more terrifying and have a ton of personality as well, the surreal factor is 10 times more and the graphics combined with the intense background music create a way more exhilarating experience – in Godfall. Overall, Godfall is an extraordinary visual experience and it’s so overwhelming that you’ll have to put cucumbers on your eyes and rest for 30 minutes after every gaming session.

9. Thymesia

It’s not every day that you see a malnourished protagonist in a full-blown sword-slashing action RPG and Thymesia realizes that vision in the creepiest way possible – the game has a strong melancholic vibe to it, similar to movies like The Nightcrawler or Silence of the Lambs. The wet muddy roads, the ancient buildings, the rustic countryside, and exploring a wooden world will take you back to the tribal ages when the only game humans played was the game of life, death, and survival – it has an Elder Scrolls vibe to it.

The protagonist in Thymesia looks goofy and is thinner than a matchstick but everything about the game is straight-up fire. The claw attack feature in the game makes you feel like a feral beast on the prowl. Villains in the game attack you so fiercely that it seems like they want to slice you up, cook you medium rare, and eat you while sipping Chianti like Dr. Hannibal Lecter. It is the not the most lively looking RPG but it delivers a ton of thrilling moments. Overall, Thymesia is the “don’t judge a book by its cover” personification of a video game.

10. Dark Souls 3

Dark Souls 3 is like the handsome & super-rich older brother to whom Dragons Dogma 2 looks up – Dragons Dogma 2 couldn’t live up to the standards set by elder bro Dark Souls 3, which makes him a bitter disappointment to his parents. The marvelous creatures empowered by dark forces, the ancient mythical landscape, angelic background music that enters your soul, and deeply satisfying old-school sword combat will transport you to the magical realm of Dark Souls 3.

Dark Souls 3 will give you the most intense adrenaline rush in the most grim & stunning ancient castle landscapes and with the most innovatively designed monstrosities – you are going to feel insignificant like a house fly & also feel like a roaring lion at the same time while engaging in combat with beasts & evil creatures. The abandoned castle vibe in Dark Souls 3 is calming and will make you instantly forget your terrible day at work/school.

11. Lies of P

The gory trail of black gooey mass that comes after sword slashing is the most visceral and breathtaking sword combat that you’ll ever see – it’s extremely stylish & cinematically satisfying like the gore you see in Quentin Tarantino’s movies. Elden Ring’s sense of abandon, Bioshock style of magical & creepy surrealism, God of War style of animalistic rage, a Resident Evil 4 style of post-apocalyptic feel, and Dark Souls 3’s type of fantastical beasts – Lies of P combines everything with its original take and presents you an unfamothably wondrous visual experience.

The emotionless robots with eyes glowing red, the headless creatures, the spellbound metallic dogs, angry swordsmen hungry for your blood, the machinistic beasts that will try to squash you like a bug, the engorged zombie abominations filled with puss and purely muscular beasts – there’s an entire array of bizarre creatures waiting for you to beat them in Lies of P. Overall, Lies of P is a visually overwhelming experience infused with lots of magic.
