5 Things That Went Wrong with Fast and Furious Showdown

Fast and Furious Showdown is a 2013 racing game based on the movie “Fast and Furious Five”. The theme of Fast and Furious Showdown is similar to the superhit movie but it couldn’t live up to the sky-high standards of entertainment set by the movie. The game received bad reviews from the critics & harsh ignorance from the fans of the Fast & Furious franchise. Here’s a list of 5 things that went wrong with Fast and Furious Showdown.

Things That Went Wrong With Fast and Furious Showdown

1. Cars Made of Some God Material

We saw Toretto’s car spinning & getting reduced to an undrivable mess in the movie “The Fast and The Furious 1” or Han’s car getting wrecked mercilessly & catching flames after getting hit in Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift. All these realistic crashes humanized these super fast cars but in Fast and Furious Showdown, the cars are breaking raw concrete pillars like they’re made of cardboard. The NPC cars are taking all the damage & your car isn’t even getting a shock or slowing down – crashing of the cars & impact after crashing is unrealistic & it seems like the car is made of Adamantium & is invincible.

2. Invincible Characters That Get No Harm Whatsoever

If the game characters from Fast and Furious Showdown entered the movie universe then there would be no deaths of fan-favorite characters – as the game characters are so ridiculously overpowered that they can even hang onto the window of cars & shoot enemies without even holding the car. It’s so stupid that the characters don’t even get as much as a scratch of an injury after grazing with objects at insane speeds.

The silliest & most laughable part is when the game character is shooting a machine gun with his head out – it seems like the character’s about to give a speech as he is fully calm and composed even after the vehicle takes a solid hit. Your character jumps atop other cars like he’s Spiderman and it doesn’t even look stylish like the Fast and Furious movies.

3. Terrible Visual Effects & Goofy Combat Mechanics

There won’t be a single strand of hair standing, forget goosebumps while playing the supposed game adaptation of the cool-looking 5th installment of the Fast and Furious movie franchise. The drift effects looked horrible with the throbbing feel added to drifts and an unsatisfying amount of dense smoke coming from the tires during drifts. The game’s color palette seemed oddly vibrant for an intense action racing game. The color theme looked more like a mobile racing game than a movie adaptation game built for PC.

Now let’s about the combat mechanics of the game – you cannot see any impact of the bullets on enemies or their cars. The enemy car just gets blasted after a few seconds of shooting & there’s no such thing as a cinematic build-up before the blast happens. The health bar on top of enemy cars looked absurdly childish & it couldn’t deliver a genuine thrill one expects in a car chase with guns blazing. Even the decades-old Mario console game is more exciting than Fast and Furious Showdown.

4. A Strong Vibe of Forced Coolness

The inclined objects placed on highways that allow the players to pull off a barrel roll, the helicopters chasing you, voice-over dialogues like “Aw, Hell no” that don’t have the same charm as the movies, the blurry visual effects during nitrous boost, the movie inspired fonts that appear during the race and the inclusion of the “Fast & Furious 6” ramp car – all these elements seemed out of place & felt like a forced attempt in creating a cool-car chasing action game. The only organic cool thing in the game was the hip-hop music playing in the background.

5. Toyish Driving Controls

The driving controls in Fast and Furious Showdown will suck the joy out of every in-game driving experience that you ever had. There seems to be no concept of mass in any vehicle as the heaviest of vehicles jump in the air & land after doing a 360-degree turn – it just looks absurd and not in a fun way. From the heaviest to the lightest vehicles, every vehicle drives the same and feels equally light in control. It’s a tough challenge to take this game seriously with the kind of driving controls it offers to the gamer. Overall, the Fast and Furious Showdown game is a forgettable racing experience.
