We played the game and found it to be extremely tense, relatable, and entertaining. Here’s our review of Forest Ranger Services: Episode 1.
Forest Ranger Services: Episode 1 Review
1. It all starts with a dare
The game begins with a dare from a friend, which forces you to walk past the fences of the national park and into the mist-covered, eerie, soul-terrifying, and unbearably placid tracks of the mysterious woods. You are going to see wild animals prancing ahead of you, dense vegetation and grass that is swaying like a trained dance professional as winds pass through them. You will get to hear the mixture of multiple buzzing sounds made by the nocturnal beasts that are not too far away from you and the spine-chilling sound of nothingness before you encounter an indiscernible sinister entity in the middle of the woods.
Your playable character changes to a forest ranger after the forest gameplay ends, and things start to become a lot more tense psychologically.
2. A desolate town that is hiding secrets
As the gameplay progresses, you’ll start to drive around the town looking for clues while listening to a conspiracy-based radio show that informs you about the recent disappearances in town. The quiet drive around the desolate town is a mix of atmospheric, unnerving creepiness and a strong peaceful feeling that you get during a solo drive. It almost feels as if you’re driving in a ghost town that no one dares to visit. The radio show hints at the government covering up the disappearances or a weird experiment that is being hidden by the government through aggressive means.
You are going to feel an eerie, behavioral coldness in the air while interacting with the game characters.
3. Enigmatic characters and amazing dialogues
The characters of the game are quite enigmatic as they speak with a poetic and cryptic undertone. You are going to feel creeped out in their presence just like how you felt while watching Dr. Hannibal Lecter for the very first time in ‘Silence of the Lambs.’ It almost feels as if these characters already know that your end is near and inevitable. The characters talk with evil sarcasm and you’re going to feel a “confident but bad intentions” type of energy while being in their vicinity. You don’t know whether you are being given help or being set up throughout the gameplay. The dialogues have an evil-but-charming kind of flair to them that you’re definitely going to love.
4. An altercation with the law
The game picks up a serious, grim, and unsettling tone as it approaches the climax. Your character is getting aggressively involved in the investigation of the disappearances, and the game’s visual tone starts to resemble a crime-related neo-noir movie like ‘NightCrawler‘ as the gameplay nears its end. In the final shot, you will see yourself being questioned by the law enforcement authorities of the highest stature as you stumble upon some super secretive documents. The game ends on an intense note, like a ‘please tell me some more about this’ type of cliffhanger. Overall, Forest Ranger Services Episode 1 is an atmospheric delicacy for the gamers.
