Tales Beyond the Tomb – The Farm’s Secret is a 2024 atmospheric horror game and the 2nd entry in the series after Pineville Night Stalker. In the game, you play as Samantha, a lost girl who is confused about her relationship with the weird man she lives with, and your objective in the game is to survive that weird man, who later in the game turns out to be a bloodthirsty psychopath. If you’ve been watching too much Ted Bundy or Jeffrey Dahmer type of content, then you’re going to absolutely love the unhinged, menacing and animalistic vibe of the game.
We played the game and would like to describe it as an atmospheric horror game with lunatic energy, if that makes any sense. Here’s our review of Tales Beyond the Tomb – The Farm’s Secret.
Disturbingly creepy atmosphere
There’s an undeniably creepy silence in the air whenever you’re there with this man named Chris. It almost feels as if he’s looking through you and not in your eyes, like a regular socially trained person does. There’s no warmth in his words and expression, even when he’s saying the nicest things. Chris reminds you of Hannibal Lecter, as they both have the same dead, expressionless, piercing, and menacing eyes, but Chris doesn’t have any suave charisma or superficial charm like Hannibal possesses. Even during food time, there are no lively or fun conversations – you are going to feel like you’re talking to a peeping tom while conversing with Chris.
The impulsive cruelty unleashed by Chris will send shivers down your spine. In simple words, the atmosphere of the game will inspire feelings of dread, despair, and claustrophobia.
A messed up relationship
Your character, Samantha, doesn’t have a clue who she’s living with and thinks that Chris is some type of father figure to her. However, there’s no genuine warmth from Chris’s side, as he only talks to Samantha whenever he wants something done – you are going to feel as if Sam is just being used like a laborer. Samantha’s relationship with Chris feels like something a captive would have with their captor – it’s very Stockholm Syndrome-ish in its nature. You are always going to feel like, “Am I his next victim, or does he like/trust me as one of his own?” while looking at the petrifying, joyless, and zombified face of your captor.
You are going to witness some heinous crimes being committed live by Chris, like a lion teaching his cub how to hunt – it’s extremely disturbing to look at.
Inside the predator’s cave
After a bone-chilling, heart-pounding, psyche-shattering, blood-splattering series of events, you land inside the psychopath’s cave where all of his victims lay in wounded or worse conditions. There’s a bit of graphical violence, visceral gore, and acts of cruelty shown in the game from a distance, but it would still haunt you for days. You will have to outsmart your way out of the stench-filled, blood-splattered basement from where most people don’t get to blink twice; forget escaping – it’s going to be a scary yet exhilarating experience. Tales Beyond the Tomb—The Farm’s Secret is way more dark and demented than Pineville Night Stalker and way better in terms of the sheer shock factor.
A chilling end to the madness
You think you’ve escaped the predator, and you turn back only to realize the predator is breathing on your back with a cold look on its face and ferocity in its eyes – you are going to experience the very same thing but on a very nice wooden floor and inside a huge house. Without giving away much, there’s going to be a lot of “catching up on things” that your character, Samantha, has to do after the climax unfolds. Overall, if you want to see gore galore and how demented the human psyche can become, then this game won’t disappoint you.
