Weldiver is an upcoming survival/simulation game developed by SOGA, an indie game development studio. The game challenges you with the role of an underwater repairman who is in charge of welding metallic structures, maintaining offshore rigs, and replacing communication lines underwater. Despite a rapidly beating heart, you will have to take a dip into the endless depths of the ocean and perform the duties of an underwater welder.
From its first impressions, Weldiver looks like a simple task-oriented game that turns into an underwater horror game. The sharks in Weldiver look menacing enough to make the protagonist release some water (the yellow kind) in pure terror. Here are our thoughts on Weldiver’s first impressions.
The first Impressions look something like this
1. A risk of never getting to hug your tiny human again
Other than being a braveheart employee, the protagonist in Weldiver is also a superhero dad to his young daughter. With each dip into the merciless & treacherous ocean, you are risking your chances to receive the warmest hug of validation a man gets to receive after hours of hard work, from his little angel. The photo shown above works as a double-edged sword as it gives you a purpose to work & also gives you tremendous anxiety about not returning back alive. The emotional storytelling in Weldiver’s trailer looks riveting & heartwarming enough to make a grown man feel homesick.
2. You might stop envying the National Geographic camera crew after playing this game
From the first looks of the trailer, Weldiver looks extremely gorgeous so much so that you are going to feel as if you’re watching one of David Attenborough’s wildlife documentaries or an underwater episode of the Discovery channel. It looks good enough to make you anticipate of a sharp-toothed creature emerging out of the shadows and looking at you like you’re the menu of an underwater buffet, or worse, you’re the buffet itself. The graphical textures of the underwater shadows, creatures and submerged objects look promisingly breathtaking enough to bring your childlike intrigue back.
3. A magical world awaits you
It’s not as vibrant & gorgeous as Atlantis, but it looks like an alluring world, submerged underwater that is made of metal. It looks like a heavenly palace underwater that is calling your name and asking you to explore its nooks and crannies. It makes you feel liberated, like a free horse running wild in the forests, and as far as your imagination can take you. The gorgeous world of Weldiver looks like a place a working man could dream of exploring through his newly bought gaming PC while moving like a snail in the life-sucking traffic on his way back home from the office.
From the looks of Weldiver, it looks like a therapeutic virtual dip in the ocean for you to wash off post-work anxiety.
4. It looks as if some Finding Nemo nostalgia is waiting for you
This screenshot of the ship propeller alone triggers major nostalgia for every Finding Nemo fan who remembers Nemo’s attempt to escape the fish tank. The propeller looks extremely gorgeous when it lies still, and it also looks like the world’s most brutal way for any diver to perish. The spinning shots in Weldiver’s trailer of the propeller with aggressively emerging bubbles look like an absolute nightmare for every ocean diver or someone with a phobia of the ocean.
5. You are going to face the bullies of the sea
It’s going to feel like going to school all over again, where you are the new kid in the school and the older & stronger kids are looking for ways to make your life a hellish experience only except this time, the hell is underwater and bullies want to rip you apart into shreds and feast upon it later. The shark in the image doesn’t look as scary as the one from Jaws or Finding Nemo but it did the job that is rightfully expected from every law-abiding great-white shark, i.e., of spiking our heartbeat, when we were watching Weldiver’s trailer. Overall, the game looks like an enjoyably terrifying anxiety fest for gamers.
