‘The Ferry’ is a game about a ferry where you are in charge of the vehicle onboarding, ferry parking and driving processes. Amidst the nonchalant regular job stuff, things start to get a little creepier and more interesting as you begin to see and hear some really spooky stuff about your job location. ‘The Ferry’ can be described as a psychological horror game as it terrifies you with anticipation and sets you up for the climax that makes you scream in pure terror. We played the game and found it to be extremely therapeutic and creepy. Here’s our review of The Ferry.
The Ferry Game Review
1. Everything seems normal in the beginning
You are clumsy, hesitant, worried, anxious, and eager as it’s your first day at your new job at the ferry. You will have to read the instructions written down by the ferry owner and also get connected to him on the radio for work guidance. It’s a small, claustrophobic office that will creep the living daylights out of you due to its questionably serene nature. There’s loneliness as far as the eyes can see and a feeling of uncertainty. Things will become interesting as soon as the traveling cars arrive and you have to on board and transfer them to the other side of the river.
‘The Ferry’ seems pretty therapeutic and calming in the first 10 minutes of gameplay. You will almost feel as if you’re on vacation and driving your expensive yacht until the horror begins to unfold.
2. Some conversations will make you doubt yourself
Your conversations with the car drivers will have a cryptic and sinister tone to them, and they will make you wonder, “Is my job’s first day at the ferry going to be my last day on earth?” or “Am I being sacrificed for some oceanic ritual?”. It almost feels as if the strangers know all about you and even what’s going to happen to you in the next few hours. The conversation with the ferry owner will make you believe he is hiding something from you, as he is extremely sweet and personal only within a few hours of knowing you.
You will get a strong “Why is everything going so smoothly? Am I being set up ?” feeling during the gameplay whenever a character says “Thank you” without even knowing you. “The Ferry” is a creepy adventure, to say the least.
3. A beautifully haunting atmosphere
A mist-covered dark forest with a suspicious alien shadow peeking at you, a moonlit ocean with discernible shapes and figures floating and slowly gaining structural integrity as you get close, an eerily silent ferry cruising through the river, the illumination of the ferry railings and stairs, and cars coming out of the shadows with reddish lights that look like a predator stepping out of hiding are some of the few sceneries that are going to make your eyes feel special. It’s an ominous atmosphere, but it’s gorgeous in a unique, neo-noir kind of way. You are going to feel relieved each time you see a pair of lights getting closer in “The Ferry.”.
4. You will start to get a little suspicious
Hurried calls from the owner of the ferry who seems a little too happy that you are there, surprising notes you mistakenly found out that warn you to get away from the ferry as soon as possible, car drivers talking to you in an appreciative tone, suspicious objects being carried onto the ferry, conversations that hint at oncoming death or doom and mysterious objects that suddenly dip back into the ocean after seeing you are some circumstances that will make you sweat with suspicion. Without giving away much, we would say that it is one of the most creatively designed climaxes ever. Overall, it’s an amazing game that you must try.
