Void Crawler is a horror game that lets you embark on a journey into the spine-chilling depths of the earth and serve your corporation (Void Energies) by extracting a priceless material that could revolutionize the industrial energy sector. You play the role of an employee named Marcus, who has lost his daughter, and he is depressed enough to take on the monotonous job of mineral extraction from the depths of the earth. The seemingly simple job of Marcus soon turns into a life-threatening series of events that you will experience in the gameplay. Here’s our review of Void Crawler.
Void Crawler Game Review
1. A deep dive into the evil psyche of humans
Void Crawler introduces you to the psychopathic tendencies of the corporations, and how low they can stoop for their beloved profits. You are going to be used by the company like a sacrificial goat that is offered to the gods. The lack of empathy shown by the companies while executing their “I don’t care how much blood spills, but I want to get it done” plan is evident in the gameplay. You are going to feel like a mere pawn, an expendable resource, whose life means nothing compared to the evil undertaking of the company, whose main goal is profit maximization and safeguarding its reputation.
The conversations with company individuals in Void Crawler will shock you to your core. You’re going to experience extreme disbelief in the concept of humanity during the gameplay.
2. A delicacy packed with mysterious flavors
Void Crawler doesn’t scare you instantly as it builds up slowly and gradually into an atmospheric, psychologically disturbing, and blood-curdling experience. The game hits it out of the park with the use of mystery and how it keeps you guessing till the point you get into critical danger. You’re going to have to navigate a machine called “The Mole” to find suitable spots for mineral excavation. A creepy, mysterious, and unearthly entity comes out of the machine each time you dig, that will intrigue you or make you pee your pants in pure terror.
The metallic clangs of the underground metallic infrastructure, haunting instructions, and nerve-wracking anticipation will make your gameplay unforgettable and a testosterone-inducing experience.
3. Ancient aesthetics that keep you hooked
Void Crawler will remind you of movie franchises like Indiana Jones & Lara Croft: The Tomb Raider. The mysterious, scary, ancient, and supernatural aspect of the evil entity shown in the game puts you in a visual trance, where you want to turn off the game but also get a little closer because of its extremely gorgeous visuals. The neon-lit aesthetic of Earth’s underlying evil creates a beautiful blend of alien-like, never-seen-before visuals with the ancient scripture visuals that you might have seen in the secret temples shown in Indiana Jones or Lara Croft movies. The neon-green eyes look pretty cool, and the ancient carvings on the wall add mystique to the whole aesthetic.
4. It reaches the epitome of absurdity
A rust-filled metallic facility that lies thousands of meters deep into the earth’s surface, a weird companion in depressing work conditions, a gloomy and dreadful atmosphere that doesn’t feel like a workplace, and the hallucinatory visuals of Void Crawler will make you believe in the definition of absurd, awkward, or weird. The nightmarish world of the DC universe’s Gotham City with dark alleys, dark-greyish air, and a criminal underbelly looks like a fantasy world compared to the claustrophobic workstation in Void Crawler.
The game boasts a pale visual undertone that screams “grim” and doesn’t let you breathe easy for even a second. You’re going to feel heavy-hearted each time you are exploring Earth’s hidden underground caves during the gameplay.
5. A nightmarish plot that terrifies you terribly
Marcus is a man who has lost his daughter and a purpose to live and work hard for. He doesn’t have any aspirations left anymore. He just wants to work for the sake of it, i.e., to pay his bills and survive. Marcus signs up for the risky job of navigating through earth’s hellish depths and extracting valuable minerals. Little did he know that he was going to meet his daughter soon as the work conditions slowly started resembling a jail sentence with the death penalty, i.e., not having an option to get out and imminent death. The claustrophobia in the game gives you a mixed feeling of nervousness and excitement. Overall, the game is an exhilarating anomaly.
